Those of you that have seen Tachoblog’s last two View From The Cab posts will know that our New Zealand correspondent Vic H has recently had a little bit of time off.

Now, rather than hit the beach or nightclubs – we suspect that the latter is probably not his cup of tea (or glass of wine)  – Vic’s been out and about doing other things and kindly sent Tachoblog  some pictures.

The first photos come from Vic’s visit to the Ferrymead Heritage Museum in Christchurch.  We’ll let him take up the story…

“Inside there was a replica grocer’s shop with a ‘Granville’ bike identical to the one I used for delivering groceries when I was about 60 years younger than I am now.”

“Also a 1923 Austin 7, again identical to one I used to drive with a 3-speed back-to-front crash gearbox, handbrake worked on the front wheels and footbrake worked on the back ones. Right up until the 1950s our family doctor used to visit his patients in one of these; he also had a 1948 Daimler DB18 saloon but normally used the Austin 7 for house calls. Sorry about the reflections in this photo, it was taken through glass and I couldn’t get out of the way of the sun’s reflections.”

Now we get to the trucks.  These next two pictures are of  “a couple of old Chevrolet trucks.”

During his second week off, Vic (and his wife Val)  spent a few days “on our land on the edge of the Hokianga Harbour in the far north, where the rest of the family live and I managed to get a few truck photos while I was up there.”

“All these trucks are still working, they tend to keep their trucks a long time up there!”
