No, your favourite (it is isn’t it?) Transport Blog hasn’t lost the plot, it’s a serious question.  Especially as Tachoblog has learnt that Freight Best Practice has published a new free Case Study which highlights the financial and environmental benefits experienced by the Malcolm Group since they moved part of their deliveries from road to rail.

The Case Study entitled ‘The Malcolm Group: An Award Winning Multi-modal Operator’ explains how The Malcolm Group successfully trialled and then implemented rail for the delivery of goods from Lutterworth to Grangemouth via Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT).   By utilising this seven day a week service, they now save over 9.5 million road kilometres a year which equates to a saving of 6,300 tonnes of CO2.

The Case Study also highlights the support given by the Rail Freight Group in helping to facilitate this modal shift and the range of advice and information available to other operators considering similar changes.

The Malcolm Group: An Award Winning Multi-modal Operator Case Study is completely free of charge as are all Freight Best Practice publications, and can be obtained by calling the Freight Best Practice Hotline on 0845 877 0 877 or by visiting www.freightbestpractice.org.uk
