View From The Cab Logo10 427x62Don’t panic, it’s nothing too serious.  Just that after this post we’ll be taking a two week break.  We’ll be back with you on 6th September.

Now let’s get on with this week’s View From The Cab…

View From The Cab Logo10 427x62Finally for this week we nip down to the Southern Hemisphere to meet up with Vic H in New Zealand.  Vic’s been ‘playing around in the snow again this week; there has been lots more of the white stuff in both islands. I got as far as Kaikoura in the South Island at about 7am on Monday to find this ROAD CLOSED sign, and the road stayed closed until 12.30pm on Tuesday. If you are wondering why the road would be closed with green grass around’…

…’it is because it heads over the hills in the distance known as the Hundalees’…

VFTC Hundalees1 427x320

…’where there are lots of very steep and winding bits of road and they were impassable mainly because of ice. However after a couple of days work with snow ploughs and grit trucks we eventually got through’…

VFTC Hundalees2 427x320

…’On the way home we found there had been plenty of snow in the North Island as well; the normal route through the Desert Road was closed so I had to come through the National Park Road where we saw lots of sheep trying to find some grass underneath the snow’…

…’Then just 2 hours after that last photo I was back in the sunshine with not a sign of winter anywhere’.
