Tachoblog’s View From The Cab – 18.9.09
It’s Friday afternoon (well it is here in the UK), so it must be time for Tachoblog’s View From The Cab.
Once again the Tachoblog Tribe have been sending in their Views and this week we’re delighted to be swelling the tribal ranks with two new members.
We’ll start with one of the new Tribe, Rizzo101 who sent this View of the River Tay from Frierton Bridge in Perth, Scotland.
Click below to see all of this week’s Views…
Next we head to New Zealand where Vic H was driving down State Highway 2 from Auckland to Edgecumbe in the Bay of Plenty. There wasn’t too much traffic on the road as I was approaching Paeroa, where the sun was struggling to get through the clouds…
After Paeroa, the road goes through the Karangahake Gorge alongside the Ohinemuri River, where today the sun was just clearing away the last of the early morning fog…
…This river is occasionally subject to severe flooding and the road can be several metres under water, but there were no such problems today.
Next door – ok, nowhere near that close, but you get the idea – in Australia, TwoCrowsDown sent in this view of a friendly dingo at one of the minesites in the Pilbara, Western Australia.
Over in America, Amishtrucker was in a long line of trucks getting off of I35 trying to get into the truck stops at exit 13 in Laredo, Texas. He tells Tachoblog that ‘This was from earlier in the week but I wanted it to be my VFTC. There are three truck stops at exit 13 and a lot of truck traffic in Laredo (international trade). The system isn’t designed to handle that much traffic yet so sometimes there are long lines’…
…Amishtrucker also sent this View from downtown Laredo which is ‘just a few blocks from the bridge that goes to Mexico. The river (and border) is just a few blocks to the left of the street in this photo’.
We stay in Texas and greet our second new member of the Tachoblog Tribe, Namanav, who has sent in three Views. The first of sunrise through the fog just east of Marshall…
…Then this one of Amish selling baskets outside of the truckstop…
…And finally one where you can see the ‘Leaves changing color already in Pennsylvania’. He adds ruefully that ‘It’ll be time for the tire chains soon for out west’.
Trucker Desiree and Karma the Wonder Dog had spent the night ‘sleeping in a yard full of empty trailers’…
…Karma was very happy with all the open space….
…But this morning the weather wasn’t so good.
Heydriver and Goldie were enjoying the black ribbon of new asphalt on US Rte 222S in Ephrata, Pennsylvania…
…Then found an open Weigh Station on I-83 S in Maryland. Heydriver says ‘Look pretty now. 1st of 3 today’.
The first of three Views from Darkstaff finds him at The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument in Kearney,Nebraska over I-80…
…Then he brings us rain over Cheyenne,Wyoming as viewed from the Pilot truck stop off I-80…
…And finally we catch up with him again, ‘rolling down US 6/34 in Nebraska toward Holdrege, ‘racing’ a train’.
Finally for today we meet up with TheNose100 who is in North Canton, Ohio getting corn syrup for the candy factory…
…’Pump it up’…
…He blames his poor listening for this cabless View From The Cab…
…And then shows us the cab…
…Before finally showing us this self-View of a ‘goofy trucker’. Now what’s he shouting…answers on a postcard (well, comment) please.
That’s it for this week, see you all next week. Don’t forget that if you want to send in your View From The Cab then you’re more than welcome. Just email vftc@tachoblog.com or, if you use twitter, tweet @tachoblog with #vftc

Great pictures this week! I am guessing that TheNose100 is all excited about his upcoming wedding next week! Now, lets have a VFTC from that, Randy!
As a tanker driver too, I know just what he’s shouting. The tanker is just about to overflow and he’s shouting “STOP!!!!!!” to the guy operating the pump. Been there, done that.
Wan’t aware that TheNose100 was getting married so, firstly, many congratulations from Tachoblog and, secondly, do send in a View!
Um, Yea… We are… Er I am… Well She is too… I’m yelling.
HEY!TwoCrowsDown! There’s a Dingo in my TANK! I think that some Amish trucker misunderstood Goldie and gave me some weird Karma, or does someone Desiree with me?
Oh yea… About that wedding thing…It’ll be kinda geeky…

I think he’s yelling something like “Quick! Turn the damned pump off!”
Or as Scotty would say- “She canna take any more Captain!”
[...] week, the Tachoblog Tribe have been sending in their Views for which Tachoblog is always grateful. Last week’s VFTC was, perhaps, the best ever, can we beat that this [...]
Have just come across this site and read through some of the posts and have now decided to leave a comment.
This is such a great site I have really been enjoy the posts, I have to say that truck drivers have one of the craziest jobs around being on the road all day everyday, can be very hard on them and to see a blog like this, where someone is actually making the best out of their job is truly inspirational, I just love the places that you have visited and the little stories that go with the individual photographs.
Looking forward to going through some more of the posts and maybe leaving a comment or two.
Keep well and travel safe
Regards
Tim
