Well, as you already know (assuming you read our post of a couple of days ago), we’ve been to Sweden thanks to the lovely people at Allison Transmission. They kindly invited Tachoblog to learn a bit more about their automatic gearboxes, and fortunately that learning involved some practical work which included driving an FH16-660 and the R480. Now we’ll save the full report and tech specs for another posting – Tachoblog’s trying to catch up with / delete the 1400 emails we’ve returned to - but suffice to say that both vehicles tolerated Tachoblog’s blatant inexperience and proved to be very easy to drive.
As you can see neither was driven on the road but on the muddy ‘roads’ of a quarry, a fact that makes the ease of driving all the more incredible. To be honest, thanks to the conditions, Tachoblog wouldn’t have stood a chance if it wasn’t for the superb Allison gearbozes that both trucks had. And no, they haven’t paid us to say that, they really were that good.
