Before Tachoblog went on our recent break, we had an email from Chris Campbell who happens to be the National Manager, Scotland for Skills for Logistics (SfL).

In a previous incarnation, Chris was transport manager at BXL’s chemical plant in Grangemouth and he sent us this picture.

We’ll let him tell you the story…

“I have just come across this picture which I took of a very tidy Scania unit and trailer belonging to Schmidt parked at the BXL Chemical Plant in Grangemouth, Scotland circa 1976.

“I think it is a 110 and the driver had just fired up the engine as you will see during a cold winter morning. The tanker would be loaded with polyethylene granules possibly in transit to Cable De Lyon in France who made undersea plastic telecommunication cables.

“In those days  BXL ( Bakelite Xylonite Ltd) had its own-account fleet of immaculately kept Atkinson and DAF tractors and semi trailer tankers. BXL sold the plant to BP in the early eighties and they decided to go ‘third-party instead of own account. ”

Thanks Chris and please do send us more!
