This week View From The Cab’s been a bit like buses – you wait for ages then two come at once…
Anyway before we get stuck into this week’s Views and there are quite a few to get through too, do make sure you keep reading to the end of the post as Tachoblog’s got some big news.
So, let’s get started with the Views then and we’ll begin in Texas with Amishtrucker who’s wondering ‘Where are all those Uhaul trucks headed? A whole string (and I missed the first bunch in my picture!) headed east on I10 near Columbus,Texas. This would seem to indicate more people rent them going west and Uhaul is moving a bunch back east’…
…Now he’s on the I10 and thinks that he’s ‘being passed by TheNose100′. But is he?

Friday so definitely time for a video clip on Tachoblog. As is often the case, we have the excellent etruck to thank for alerting us to this one.
Come and watch the trucks on Tangoio Hill which is part of the Napier to Wairoa road. Sadly we can’t see Vic H on this clip but if anyone knows different then please let is know!
The English are known for, amongst other things, their drinking of tea and, of course, the nation’s favourite meal (no, not curry, the other one!) fish and chips.
This means that Tachoblog instantly took notice when we heard that TCR had chosen Isuzu for pioneering new fridge vehicle.
Why were we so interested? Well, as you’ll see if you keep reading, TCR supply fish and chip shops!
In a pioneering new development designed to offer greater service levels to its customers, TCR Food Service has put its first 11 tonne refrigerated truck on the road, specifying an Isuzu F110.210 rigid chassis cab, fitted with a 5.4m fridge body from Jackson Coachworks that uses a brand new system of eutectic refrigeration.
Tachoblog’s all for stuff that saves money and if it’s good for the environment too then that’s even better. News of a new, all-electric commercial vehicle is now available seems to tick both boxes so we had to find out more.
Available from £30,000, the XT320E costs around half the price of the current 3.5t electric vans on the market – and can deliver better range on a single charge. It is the first of four XT vehicles on offer from UK electric vehicle specialist, ePower Trucks.
Speaking to Tachoblog, Jerry Hanss, Managing Director of ePower Trucks, said: “We looked at what was available on the market and identified a gap for a lower cost EV, with better range performance.”

Tachoblog makes no bones about it, we’re BIG fans of Allison’s fully automatic gearboxes. But did you know (and we didn’t) that they’re just as good for pump units as they are on trucks?
So come take a trip to Mainz in Germany with Tachoblog as we find out more.
Oil production is a complex business requiring special equipment and broad technical knowledge. Extraction machinery and its components must be durable, reliable and able to perform continually over several hours in extreme environments.
Consulting Agency Trade (C.A.T.), from Celle near Hannover, Germany, produces and delivers special equipment for the exploration of oil and natural gas and offers technical advice for the implementation of drilling and well stimulation systems. For over 20 years, the company has trusted Allison fully automatic transmissions to support its stationary rig operations on pump vehicles, in pump containers and on drilling towers.
“For all applications Allison transmissions provide robust and reliable performance. That’s why we have been using them for more than 20 years,”Volker Hein, manager of C.A.T.’s construction division tells Tachoblog, “There is almost no challenge an Allison cannot cope with. Whether in Siberian temperatures down to minus 40°C or as part of new oilfield pump technologies, thanks to constant enhancements, Allison transmissions are always prepared to deliver the best results. We specify the Allison 4000 and 6000 Series as well as the big 9000 Series according to the pump and the required performance.”
Recognise this? In case you didn’t (or guess from this post’s title), it’s the Land Rover City-Cab from Sylvester Stallone’s 1995 film, Judge Dredd.
This and other amazing Land Rovers from blockbuster movies and hit TV shows will be attracting the crowds at this year’s LANDROVERmax! held at Stoneleigh Park from 28th to 30th August.

Harley-Davidsons are quite something says Tachoblog – ok, we prefer sportsbikes, but bikes is bikes so we couldn’t not bring you the news that two new, all-black Volvo FH tractor units have joined the fleet of Gloucester-based We Move Bikes.
Contracted to all-American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson the stunning 4×2 units are used to transport the latest and most exotic Harley creations to exhibitions throughout Britain and Europe.
According to Rudolf Dieterle, who is in charge of the Swiss Road Works Department (Astra) and its many tunnels, Swiss road tunnels are among the safest worldwide. In spite of this, Astra is well aware that 126 of the overall 220 national road tunnels do not yet come up to the latest safety standards, or only partly so. Of the total of 1.2 billion Swiss francs allocated by the Bern Parliament for improvements to the safety of these man-made structures, by the end of 2010 thirty-eight million francs will have already been used for the section of national road A 13 including the Cassanawald Tunnel and the connection to Nufenen. Among other things, the construction work includes applying fireproof mortar to the tunnel vault. The work is being done by the Luzern Construction Company Marti AG.
