Truck stops are vital rest areas for truck drivers and help ensure safety for all road users. Drivers need to take regular rests knowing that they are safe and their vehicle and loads are secure.
Over in America, Drivers have been able to find Truck Stops – and loads of other useful information – thanks to the excellent Trucker iPhone application by Allen from AskTheTrucker for a while, but until now UK drivers have had nothing remotely close.
However, that has now changed thanks to Websetters Limited launching Truck Stop England, the first mobile guide of English truck stops for Apple’s popular iPhone.
Those of you from the UK will, we’re sure, be well aware that this month sees the return of Sport Relief, the ’sporting spin off’ from Comic Relief.
This year it’s from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st March and, as always, all the money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.

Tachoblog knows you like a gentle start to the week, so let us treat you with a video to get your Monday going.
Thanks to longroadpro.com, we can bring you not just one but two videos of this classic 1952 Bullnose Kenworth Cabover owned by Jim Dobbas from Newcastle in Northern California.
Last Friday’s View From The Cab had someone missing. That was LorryDay who had sent in some Views, but for some reason the hamsters in Tachoblog’s mail server weren’t spinning their wheel fast enough and we only received the pictures this morning.
So, to kick off our week, here are the Views LorryDay sent. This one he simply described as ‘This is where Toyotas come from’ – although Tachoblog doesn’t know where ‘this’ is…

Time for Tachoblog’s favourite post of the week – and we hope it’s your’s too – as we see where and what the Tachoblog Tribe have been up to this week in View From The Cab.
We start this week’s selection from (relatively) close to where Tachoblog is with this View fromRizzo101 of the Newcastle Upon Tyne fruit and veg market when it’s empty.
White van man will soon be able to sneak quietly up on you thank to Mercedes-Benz unveiling the prototype of a battery-powered van based on the Vito.
The Vito was unwrapped at a recent EU Competitiveness Council meeting held in Spain. During the event, European ministers of economic affairs met to discuss issues relating to the economic viability of future technologies. Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, gave a speech on the sustainability of electric vehicles in his capacity as current president of the ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers Association).
Ok, so it’s another terrible pun from Tachoblog, but the news is that the superb towing capacity of the Isuzu chassis was a key factor in the recent decision by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to choose three new Isuzu Grafter 3.5 tonne 4×2 rigid crewcab trucks for ground maintenance work for various parks and school contracts within the borough.
All three Isuzu N35.150 Grafters have rigid tipping bodies specified as standard and tow drawbar platform trailers that are used to transport the council’s ride-on mowers to designated locations.
Thanks to the good folk at the UK’s Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Tachoblog can bring you a roundup of Commercial Vehicle news for this week…

Thanks to Karen from Vermillion MVT, Tachoblog can bring you this interesting top ten.
Karen says, “If your company has vehicles on the road – either cars, trucks, vans, tractors, or trailers – and you do not have a vehicle tracking system installed, it is highly likely that a significant amount of money is being spent on wasted fuel, wasted time, and unnecessary vehicle repairs and maintenance. If you wish to lower these expenses and improve the company bottom line, vehicle tracking is the solution your business has been waiting for.”
Those of you that have already read Pimp My Truck will know that Will Shiers, the editor of Truck & Driver, has got a 2002 Scania 124 420 (below) that he’s ‘pimping’ and will then sell to raise money for Help for Heroes.
In our last post, Truck Pimping Ideas, we looked at a few ideas that Will had for how to pimp his truck and he now seems to have decided on exactly what he wants to do with it. What’s it going to be? Well you’ll have click below to find out.
