“LED lights fitted to our vehicles have demonstrated significant gains in uptime,” Nigel Carr, Ryder’s Head of Engineering Services told Tachoblog. “With gloomy winter days just around the corner, the greater durability and reliability of LEDs will not only improve safety, but the gains in vehicle uptime will provide noticeable benefits to our clients.

“Ryder’s biggest contract hire customers have welcomed the installation of LED clusters on their vehicles as they go through pre-delivery inspections and we plan to make them a standard fitment across our fleet.

“Energy efficient LED lights have a lifetime rating of 100,000 hours, compared with just 800 hours for regular bulbs.  This makes them a ‘fit for life’ component that gives a cleaner, crisper light and produces less drain on the vehicle battery.”

Ryder has worked with Peterson Europe on the LED lighting project.  Speaking to Tachoblog Tony Jones, Peterson Europe’s Managing Director, said,  “Following the successful trial programme, we are delighted to have been selected to supply LED rear lights for Ryder’s future fleet requirements.  The premium engineering and quality standards of Peterson products are well matched to Ryder’s requirements, and will help meet the aspirations of Ryder’s fleet customers.”

Ryder’s Nigel Carr added: “Our aim is to ensure that we offer the most reliable trucks in the UK.  We are also working with other lighting manufacturers to be the first in the UK to fit homologated LED bulbs into existing vehicle lighting fittings and there are also LED headlight systems in development.”
