Want to prove your product is any good? Well why not try a three week, 2,000km trip through Siberia? That’s exactly what Allison Transmission and Intekra Group – the official distributor of DONGFENG heavy-duty trucks in Russia – are doing with a 20-tonne DONGFENG DFL3251AXA (6X6) dump truck.
The trip, which kicked off on 30th November to cover the Tyumen Region and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District of Russia, is designed to highlight to construction and oil and gas industry experts that a DONGFENG truck equipped with an Allison transmission can deliver maximum productivity, use fuel more efficiently and ensure ease of operation with superior safety and reliability.

This most robust of trucks has a 375 HP DF Cummins ISLe engine which, for the first time as a one-off special application, is equipped with an Allison six-speed 4430 fully automatic transmission. Chinese DONGFENG trucks are well known to Russian transport workers and management at Intekra believe they could prove as popular to more vocations such as oil and gas, hence the ambitious test to showcase the DONGFENG/Allison combination at presentations in 13 cities along the route.
“Fitting the Allison transmission has allowed us to discover new capabilities of the DONGFENG vehicle and we believe this is one of the best heavy-duty trucks in the market” Saulevich Oleg Ivanovich, the First Deputy General Director of the Intekra Group told Tachoblog.
“For Intekra, the collaboration with Allison is a step toward expanding the product range as well as the circle of prospective clients, for whom we believe an Allison-equipped truck is needed.”
Given the current global economic downturn, the issue of production optimisation and technological effectiveness is particularly relevant to the oil and gas industry. Equipment that works under severe Siberian conditions – temperatures of about -25 to -35° C with ice, snow, frozen slush and greasy roads – must meet the highest standards of reliability and productivity. The Allison transmission is a durable, trustworthy transmission that allows heavy trucks to move either at very low or at high speeds, to travel on flat and steep ground, over stone trails or through muddy terrain.
