An oasis and ancient trading place for nomads of all tribes and nations Ghardaia is most famous for its Carpet Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors from near and far. To transport the carpets here, both traditional methods and modern trucks are used – such as this Volvo FH truck.

When Volvo Trucks launched the world’s strongest series-manufactured truck, the Volvo FH16 700, Tore Aase of Norway quickly placed an order and became the first customer in the world to take delivery of the brand-new model. He has now driven the truck in regular operations for about six months.

We can reveal that, in February, Volvo Trucks will be starting field tests of methane-diesel engines. The technology will be tested in commercial operation together with a number of Swedish customers.

Tachoblog can (almost) exclusively reveal that Volvo Trucks has been selected as a preferred supplier to global logistics company Deutsche Post DHL. The companies have entered a frame agreement, which potentially includes the delivery of 1,800 trucks for the coming two years.

This is from the Truck Festival held every June in Luznice which, if like Tachoblog you didn’t know, is in the southern part of the Czech Republic. Each year hundreds of drivers and their families gather to show off their trucks and, most importantly, to have fun! One of the crowd pullers in 2009 was a Volvo FH16 tow truck.

Volvo Trucks is now launching an upgrade of the world’s first hybrid refuse truck. After a year and a half of initial field testing with excellent results, an upgraded truck is now being released with new components and software. The new refuse truck will be tested by Veolia Environmental Services in central London.
