Tachoblog’s favourite automatic gearbox manufacturer Allison Transmission is helping the city of Barcelona with its firm commitment to a sustainable future.
It’s good to learn that Volvo Trucks listen to Tachoblog. They must have read that we and our friends over at TNN really rate the Allison Transmission fully automatic gearboxes – see Swedish Truck Extravaganza on Tachoblog with a Volvo FH16-660 and FE-230, Scania P380 and R480.
Following on from our reasonably recent post ‘огонь! огонь! – That’s ‘Fire! Fire!’ To You And Me Says Tachoblog’, we can tell you that Germany’s Munich fire brigade have ordered 58 new Mercedes-Benz Atego fire engines with fully automatic Allison transmissions.
If you, like Tachoblog, like your racing games then this is the perfect Christmas present for you.
Want to prove your product is any good? Well why not try a three week, 2,000km trip through Siberia? That’s exactly what Allison Transmission and Intekra Group – the official distributor of DONGFENG heavy-duty trucks in Russia – are doing with a 20-tonne DONGFENG DFL3251AXA (6X6) dump truck.

As promised yesterday, Tachoblog brings you some more on the Volvo FH16-660 that we drove this week. In case you’ve been asleep, here’s a reminder of what it looks like.
Well, as you already know (assuming you read our post of a couple of days ago), we’ve been to Sweden thanks to the lovely people at Allison Transmission. They kindly invited Tachoblog to learn a bit more about their automatic gearboxes and fortunately that learning involved some practical work which included driving an FH16-660 and the R480.
Allison Transmission Inc. has been notified that it will be awarded a $62.8 million U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Grant to continue its efforts to design, develop and manufacture a cost-competitive commercial hybrid truck drive system. President Obama made the announcement on August 6th in Elkhart, Indiana, during a speech in which he discussed a national investment in electric drive vehicles and component manufacturing facilities. The Allison Transmission DOE grant will further increase U.S. capacity to manufacture hybrid propulsion systems for the commercial truck market.
