Classic 1938 Ford E88T
Andy Maclean the Editor of the V8 Telegraph has sent Tachoblog this shot of a fully restored and beautiful 1938 Ford E88T.
Andy said, “I thought I would send you this picture of one of our members newly restored 1938 Ford E88T and started life as a Huntley and Palmers biscuit van.

“The Ford E88T has a 24 hp in line 4 with a four speed crash gearbox. As you can see from the sign writing it is celebrating 100 years of the family business.
“Hope you enjoy the picture [Tachoblog certainly does!] it was taken on this years London to Brighton and was taken by Colin Peck.
“It was fresh from a complete restoration to advertise 100 years of the family business and it belongs to John Mould of Reading.
“This is another of John’s trucks on the same London to Brighton Run 2012.”

That 4-cylinder barrel-nosed Ford is fairly rare; they were more commonly fitted with the Ford V8 side-valve engine. In the lower photo, the tractor unit 808YUC is a Ford V8 of approximately 1933 vintage, the panel van on the trailer is another Ford V8 about 1936.
These are followed by a Fordson Thames which could have been built any time between 1949 to 1957 approximately. The standard engine in this model was originally the Ford V8 side-valve, but it was also available with the 4-cyl diesel engine from the Fordson Major tractor. I obtained my trailer licence in NZ with one of these with the V8 engine in 1957 and also drove one of these with the 4-cylinder diesel in the UK in the early 1960s; a horrible truck it was, too!
